The first day of the Wrocław Digital Musicology School!
Monday started busy – with an official welcome for the lecturers and participants of the digital musicology school, who had travelled to Wrocław from various European academic centres, including Slovenia (University of Ljubljana), Latvia (Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music; University of Latvia), Turkey (Karadeniz Technical University) and Italy (University of Padua), as well as from numerous Polish academic institutions (University of Wrocław, Academy of Music in Wrocław, Fryderyk Chopin Institute, Adam Mickiewicz University, Jagiellonian University).
The event was officially opened by: Dr Paweł Klint, Dean of the Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences at the University of Wrocław; Dr Dorota Siwecka, Director of the University Library; Prof. Remigiusz Pośpiech, Director of the Institute of Musicology at the University of Wrocław; and the organisers of the Wrocław Digital Musicology School – Dr Grzegorz Joachimiak and Marianna Siatkowska, MA.
The opening lecture was delivered by Dr Martha Thomae from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, who spoke about contemporary digital methods in musicological research into early music. On the same day, participants also attended a lecture by Sonia Wronkowska, MA, providing an introduction to the field of digital musicology, as well as a lecture by Prof. Tim Crawford from Goldsmiths, University of London, on Music Information Retrieval (MIR).
The first day ended on a high note, and from tomorrow the workshops will begin, during which participants will gain practical skills in areas such as coding and music data analysis.
We encourage you to follow our website – we have more days ahead of us packed with inspiring lectures, workshops and meetings!
